  1. There is a difference between Malacca nonya cuisine and Penang nonya dishes. Basically, the Penang version is influenced by Hokkien and Thai cooking styles and ingredients. Our tastes have been ingrained by the rich rempah (paste) used in curry, assam or chilli dishes.
    So, I found the food in Ivy’s Place a little it bland without the “kick” found in Malacca cuisine.
    But reading the blog brings back happy memories of the time we spent in Penang.

    • I agree Daddy. Malaccan Peranakan cuisine is heavier and richer in sauce, and that is what we are accustomed to. Glad this brought back memories.
